I was trying to capture the sun illuminating the mist floating over the sound.

Just a couple minutes later, the brilliant path the sun made across the water was striking.

The trails take off from Buck Lake, a picturesque, peaceful small lake surrounded by iris and cat tails.

The trail meanders off through a meadow of tall grass and blackberry brambles.

It quickly winds into deep rainforest – this mossy bench was inviting.

The circle of life — baby trees growing out of big ones.

The wild raspberries glowed incandescently, in spite of the overcast day.

I’m not quite sure what this wildflower is – wild honeysuckle? – but it’s striking.

One of the many viewpoint benches on the trail, the “Quiet Place” is actually a memorial.

There is a fabulous birdwatching platform at Lower Hawk Pond, where I snapped this blurry shot of myself.

I wasn’t actually hiking alone today; these friends accompanied me the last half mile of my journey, keeping about 30-50 feet ahead the entire time.

Camping over spring break, ca 1975. We grew up in the desert, this is where we camped – at least the fishing was excellent. Loved the socks.

I spent the better part of a decade in the pool, although I was not particularly good at it. This was about 1979, Pasco pool.

This is the same pavilion as in the sunset picture a couple days ago – and the site of many summer concerts and gatherings.

Beautiful noon sunshine on Pike Place Market, from the back side.

I’m not sure why the market is billed as ‘sanitary’, but the pig is fairly famous.

The corner market is newer than the main market behind it. I like the overhead cables in this one – they are for the downtown electric buses.

Just a block away, 4 hours later. It was a beautiful evening.

My lens really fisheyed on this one, corner of 1st & Marion, but it makes the tall city buildings really loom.

This is from the ferry terminal – I liked the lines of the Alaskan Way Viaduct. Qwest Field is in the distance on the right hand side, just above the Viaduct. The elevated roadway is settling every year and is considered one of less stable bridge structures in the US, but officials can’t decide how to replace it.

Apples still on the tree – these are huge Sekai-Ichi variety, excellent eating but not ready yet.

Our favorite fruit stand, Prey’s, a few miles east of Leavenworth on Highway 2.

Endless apples! They have dozens of kinds of apples, and the late varieties aren’t yet picked and available. We picked up 10 lbs each of Tsuguro, Granny Smith and Macintosh, plus some early Red Bartlett pears.

The squash displays were beautiful – plus, winter squash is yummy even if it is a lot of work.

I’m not sure if the bunches of dried peppers were decorative or for cooking/eating.

These sunflowers were really beautiful against the deep blue sky.

This picture has nothing to do with apple orchards – but the stark hillside and feathery clouds in the evening light were a really striking combination.

The lens flare is horrible on this shot, but I still like it. It was taken from the moving car, top down, as we drove into the mountains, directly toward the evening sun.
