Improving Mondays
Monday is painful on a number of counts – sleep deprivation, return to work mode with an overflowing inbox, the weekend’s catastrophes lying in wait, and regret for lost weekend opportunities.
So how can we improve them? Besides the sensible things, like maintaining a consistent sleep pattern and cleaning up the desk Friday afternoons.
This morning I indulged in leftover dark chocolate pudding – for breakfast – along with my coffee. What other things could help make Mondays better?
- As above, dessert for breakfast!
- Schedule lunch with a friend.
- New shoes!
- Ditch the depressing news on the way to work; listen to NPR, comedy or an audiobook.
- Or, the TaniaTM method – resign.
I’m sure the rest of you have ideas, serious or tongue-in-cheek, please share!

Let’s see.
Resigning means you have to get another job, which still leads to Mondays.
Ditching the depressing news on the way to work and replacing it with something you like, and maybe makes you laugh is good.
And how about a cabana boy – no emotional attachment, no strings, just good ol’ endorphin-producing monkey sex.
Or dark chocolate.

Vince, my senior management frowns upon me bringing a cabana boy into the office during the day, darn it!

I tried an experiment for you, and worked from home on Monday. I don’t think it’s going to help because now Tuesday has a Monday stink to it…
So I guess chocolate is the only hope. Mmmmm, dark chocolate.

Jeri,
On the rare occasions I get Monday funk here is what I do.
1) Remind myself that without Mondays we would not have Friday’s and I like those to much to get rid of them!!!
2) Buy fabric that is my general cure all!!
3) Eat chocolate!! The good stuff no wax!
4) Pester the holly crap out of someone because I am good at it and I enjoy it!!!
Hugs

I implement the “no bad news” thing generally. I get my news from our blogs, or from CBS Sunday Morning. It’s been that way since I got sober more than 17 years ago. The news today isn’t news. It’s sensationalism. It’s designed to get you to watch. Very little is stuff that impacts me directly, or that I can do anything about.
The best way to start Monday is with a smile. So here’s one you can use to help you remember what they’re like.

I worked at home on Monday and today (and today was an office day). The mess of home paperwork not 3′ away just adds to the distraction…
One of my friends just recommended a b-12 laden chocolate that is truly stress relieving – I’ll have to get the brand name.
Gene, retail therapy is always a good outlet, as long as the dollar amount is small. Do you have a photo gallery of some of your quilting work posted anywhere? And you’re on for dinner in SEA.
Tom, thanks for the smile.

My company’s answer is to work all weekend so that Monday is indistinguishable from other days.
I’d prefer to be a kept man so that Mondays are indistinguishable from other days.

Mondays (and Thursdays) aren’t bad for me, because after Tuesdays (and Fridays) I get a day off.

New music. A 30 min. noon massage. Take Monday off as your flex day. Or go in late–then the day whizzes by. Best tho is a dark truffle for breakfast. Mary
