States Visited
As we were driving across the very large Western states, Bryan and I got to thinking – how many of the states have we visited? I came up with 32 34 35, plus Washington DC. I had a little help from my parents, who drove cross-country a couple of times on different routes.
| Alabama Alaska Arizona California Colorado Georgia Hawaii Idaho Indiana Illinois Kansas Kentucky |
Maryland Michigan Minnesota* Missouri Montana Nebraska Nevada New Jersey New Mexico New York* North Carolina Ohio |
Oregon Pennsylvania South Carolina South Dakota Tennessee Texas* Utah Virginia Washington Washington DC West Virginia Wyoming |
The asterisk (*) is for airports only – I’m not entirely sure they really count. I should certainly be able to make it to the other 15 states in the next 25 years or so.
What states have you visited?

Very few actually. We drove to Florida from Michigan, so we skittered through the states between, and I’ve been to Texas and Colorado (the latter as an 8 year old).
That’s it.

Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa*, Kentucky*, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania*, South Carolina*, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas**, Virginia*, DC, West Virginia, Wyoming.
* places I’ve driven through without stopping (except for food/gas/bathroom)
** airport only
That makes it 28 if you count DC as a separate state. Not too bad.

Oh. Duh. I’ve been to DC lots of times!

Because I’m a compulsive that way, I created a spreadsheet and copied everyone’s states onto it just to see patterns. Interestingly enough, the one state that no one has yet admitted to having visited or lived in is Arkansas. I think this says something positive about the UCF.
Arkansas residents, I”m sure your state is very beautiful and full of wonderful natural resources. Still, it’s known more for its rednecks than its nobel laureates.

** Airport only
*** Short hop over the border from a neighbor state for food and/or entertainment
I could boast of having been to about as many foreign countries, though. That list actually grows faster

Ilya, among you, John the Scientist, Jim and Saqib, I think you’ve got the foreign travel category well covered. The rest of us are provicial slackers by comparison.

So there’s another hairball coming?
Bill Clinton came from Arkansas, which is either a positive or negative depending on how you voted…
July 1st, 2008
My final count was 27 plus DC…and Arkansas was one (on a boat on Lake Bull Shoals which straddles the border with
Missouri.
And airports count, as long as you got out of the plane.
