Friday night Zach and I went to the opening night of Ben’s new production, The Secret Garden.

It is an amazing musical; I can’t believe I’d never heard of it before. The story is complex and touching, the music is challenging and gorgeous. Our little community theatre did a very nice job of staging it!

Ben had two fairly minor parts. He played Major Shelley, who delivers the orphaned Mary to her uncle in Yorkshire. He doubled as a member of the servants’ ensemble, who provided choral backing throughout the play and assisted with onstage set changes during the performance.

He did a nice job. His lines and stage movement were perfect – well done, well acted, with not a trace of melodrama or scene stealing.

I’m looking forward to seeing him grow onstage as he takes on bigger roles. They will come!
