Alaska’s Surprising Governor

Sarah PalinAlaska’s Governor Sarah Palin, the much talked about hottest governor in the nation, announced last night that she is pregnant with her 5th child. Not just pregnant – but seven months pregnant.

Go, Sarah!

I admire Sarah Palin on a number of fronts. I don’t entirely share her politics, but I am impressed by her drive, her sense of balance, her values, her humor and her femininity in an old-boy world.

She is noted for her crusading against political corruption, and that approach seems to have remained a big part of her agenda as governor.

When business leaders were questioned this year about the impact of her leadership on industry, the response was that nobody seems to be able to get to her directly. Apparently many industry execs & lobbyists had direct dial phone numbers and wheeling/dealing opportunities with the former governor – but the same is not true of Palin. She’s insulated herself from that influence-peddling environment, requiring industry and special interests to go through appropriate legislative and executive channels for decision making.

Go, Sarah!

There has been a fairly significant grass-roots campaign to have her named as vice presidential running mate to Republican John McCain. She indicates that this role is not something she’s “pursued or perpetuated”, and in fact much prefers to remain as governor of Alaska.

And now, pregnancy. She is, surprisingly, not the first governor to have had a child while in office. The acting governor of Massachusetts delivered twins in 2001. Nonetheless, this is fairly unprecedented territory.

Trouper that she is, Palin said that she doesn’t expect this to impact her availability as governor during an active legislative session. She indicated she had her 4th child on a Monday and was back at work as mayor on Tuesday. Although her husband, the “First Dude” is on leave from his oil industry job, she added that she would be bringing her baby to work with her.

Go Sarah!

At the conclusion of her announcement this morning, she said that she felt having kids and serving as governor are entirely compatible.

“To any critics who say a woman can’t think and work and carry a baby at the same time, I’d just like to escort that Neanderthal back to the cave,” Palin said.

Go, Sarah!

It’s unfortunate that she doesn’t make her children a priority. Why have them if your aren’t going to raise them?

Some have questioned whether this pregnancy (5th child at age 44) is nothing more than a publicity stunt. I’ll admit; I wondered.

The VP thing is just nuts. Her “experience” consists of serving on city council and as mayor of Wasilla (population 5,469 in 2000), an Alaska Oil and Gas Commissioner for 9 months, and now Governor of Alaska for a little over a year. National experience? None. International experience? Nada.

Come on people, it takes more than a pretty face.

I’m still holding my breath over the $1.5 BILLION dollar tax hike on the state’s #1 industry. Not to mention the fact that she grew the budget $350 million her first year as governor. And to think she refers to herself as a “fiscal conservative”. Funny.

LJK – I’m not sure if you took the time to read any of the rest of my blog, or even my about page. If you had, you might notice that I’m a feminist working mom — not exactly a sympathetic audience to your child rearing rant. I’ll respond to that in a blog post of its own.

And yes, I would consider Palin a fiscal conservative. She has a novel approach – income should equal or exceed spending! Therefore, taxation and tax growth are required.

I also agree with taxing the hell out of the oil industry. While I’m a capitalist through and through, I have huge issues with giving the richest industry in the state an almost complete tax break, while that same industry rapes consumers at the gas pump while booking record quarterly profits. Can you say price fixing?

If you’d like to contribute positively to conversaton here – and I welcome civil, constructive dissenting opinions and debate – welcome! If, however, you just want a platform to bash others while shouting your own opinions, I’d suggest starting your own blog.

What is a Narcissist? Sarah Palin
Feels grandiose and self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents to the point of lying, demands to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)
Is obsessed with fantasies of unlimited success, fame, fearsome power or omnipotence, unequalled brilliance (the cerebral narcissist), bodily beauty or sexual performance (the somatic narcissist), or ideal, everlasting, all-conquering love or passion
Firmly convinced that he or she is unique and, being special, can only be understood by, should only be treated by, or associate with, other special or unique, or high-status people (or institutions)
Requires excessive admiration, adulation, attention and affirmation – or, failing that, wishes to be feared and to be notorious (narcissistic supply).
Feels entitled. Expects unreasonable or special and favourable priority treatment. Demands automatic and full compliance with his or her expectations

This inept governor Sarah Palin has secured a high approval for terrorizing and taxing business, growing government and giving every special intrest group just what they want or more. Most Alaskans are unaware that she is not what she says or what her label as conservative seems to be. Sarah has created an atmosphere of hate and discontent in the state of Alaska. She just resently tried to oust the Chairman of the Republican Party of Alaska. We have a few years -unless she resigns! She came in as a fresh face with NO experience and NO flippin clue and we are reaping the benefits of that misjudgment. Sarah Palin should never be considered for any political position ever. She is a disaster!

#6 Basic information on the mental disorder Sarah Palin seems to be showing signs of this condition. #7 Is just to comment on some of the details of the state’s misfortune. I’m sorry, I guess I got carried away..
