Wake Up Call

This morning, the wake up call system at the always comfy Dimond Center Hotel didn’t work. I saw the clerk program it in when I checked in, but still, no call. I woke up to the traffic noise at 7:55am. Yikes!

I work pretty flexible hours, and actually sometimes am not in the office until 9am the day after I fly in late, so it was not a catastrophe. Still, it was 55 minutes later than I’d planned.

I was going to blog something profound about “missing your wake-up call in life” and I’m just not feeling wise and philosophical today. So if your mind wants to go that direction – take flight on your own!

Instead, based on a conversation with the lovely, wise and witty Brandy, let’s talk about what women really want. It’s really simple: enough rest. Give us that, and we’re yours for life.

Think of the impact that would have on the world! Overtired, exhausted women, trying to do it all, are stumbling around in every walk of life. They’re depressed, irritable, impatient and unmotivated. It impacts their families, colleagues and friends.

Just think what a better place our world would be if every woman had enough sleep. Maybe there’d be less war! Perpetually cranky women who rarely put out make their men want to kick something – and they can’t kick their wife, kids or dogs, so they march out and kick a neighboring country instead.

There you have it – my grand sociological theory of female sleep deprivation and world peace, worked out on the back of an Alaska Airlines cocktail napkin after a late night flight drinking Baileys and decaf.

Maybe I should be thinking a little more about “life’s wake up calls.”

Isn’t the Dimond Center Hotel a long ways from the office? Plus, it involves the always ridiculous traffic at Dimond and Old Seward.

No further than the Sheraton, really – and they have free Inet, free breakfast, great beds and wonderful huge big soaking tubs in every room.
